Sleeping on floors and enjoying spicy foods will be the order of the day for four CQU Mackay Education students who are set to travel abroad to teach primary students in December.
Education Associate Professor Bruce Knight said eight other CQU students would form the contingent of pre-service teachers travelling to Ulsan, South Korea.

Music Spectacular Stars Under the Stars was forced into the CQ Community Sports Centre by the threat of storms.
Audience numbers were down on expectations but the crowd of around 350 seemed to enjoy the mix of orchestra, band, singers and dancers.

Environmental groups, canegrowers and community members will receive the results of extensive mangrove dieback research on Friday.
Large-scale dieback of the grey mangrove “Avicennia marina” in Mackay has been investigated over the past two years through a Coast and Clean Seas Natural Heritage Trust funded project.

Mackay Choral Society's production of Les Miserables in Concert was a major success, thanks to input from Central Queensland Conservatorium of Music staff and students.
Musical director Dimitri Kopanakis, a CQCM lecturer, led 107 performers, including a 30-piece orchestra and 60 choir members as well as ensemble and solo singers.

Central Queensland University’s Bachelor of Learning Management (BLM) program attracted the attention of academics from around the world at a recent conference in Seoul, South Korea.
CQU Gladstone lecturer and education sub-dean, Dr Beverley Moriarty attended the conference where she co-presented a session on CQU’s innovative teacher education program, the BLM.

10,000 Steps Rockhampton entered a new phase in its research and physical activity promotion, with the launch of the Community Initiative Grant Scheme last week at the Capricornia Credit Union East Street Branch.
The Community Initiatives Grant Scheme is a fund set up to support community initiatives for increasing physical activity in neighbourhoods, small workplaces, organizations and communities.

The installation of the uninterruptible power supply (UPS) that delivers electricity to Central Queensland University computer systems was restored Sunday.
Systems, which were knocked off-line following a fire late Friday, 1st of November, have been operating via temporary power lines for more than a week with minimal impact on university operations The changeover to the new equipment occurred at 2:15PM Sunday, during a 6hr and 15 minute procedure, which was completed ten hours ahead of schedule.

An exhibition that explores the links between indigenous art and the issue of native title will be shown in the Quay Street Gallery, Ron Smyth Building, 240 Quay Street, Rockhampton until the 10 December.
The exhibition Native Title Business is presented by Bundaberg’s Gurang Land Council and curated by Joan Winter.

In the midst of the biggest drought to plague Australia in many years, Central Queensland University is investigating the effects of irrigating mixed cropping systems with municipal wastewater.
CQU’s Dr Nanjappa Ashwath said the disposal of municipal wastewater into rivers could affect marine biodiversity and threaten the existence of coral reefs.
