Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

  • Staff in 'red-blooded' support of community

    Staff from CQUniversity have taken their 'red-blooded' support of community interaction to new levels, by signing up for the role of injured and bleeding airline passengers at an emergency exercise.

    The Office of Development and Graduate Relations has participated in the Rockhampton Airport Management's Annual Emergency Planning Exercise at the Rockhampton Airport, this week.

  • Maths talk adds up to stimulating event

    Around 60 Rockhampton residents this week enjoyed a humorous but informative talk by self-confessed ‘maths bum' Dr Marty Ross, while another 15 people joined in via videoconference from other campuses.

    Dr Ross spoke about ‘The Da Vinci Code and Other Nonsense' when he visited CQUniversity Rockhampton this week (July 15).

    CQUniversity has held a farewell function for 4th-year social work students before they embark on their final practicum placement before graduation.

    Among the 53 students, 17 will be undertaking their practicum placement with Queensland Health.

    CQUniversity Australia is proud to have an association with 2 of the latest NAIDOC* Week national winners - community member Bob Muir and former student Amy McQuire.

    The University's Office of Development and Graduate Relations nominated Mr Muir for the Elder of the Year (Male) award and was overjoyed to hear he was the winning finalist (announced on July 12 at the National Canberra Convention Centre).

    When Talia Wittmann won Star Maker in Tamworth this year she joined the ranks of some outstanding Australian talent.

    CQUniversity senior lecturer Rema Dhanasekar is proud to be included in the latest edition of Who's Who Queensland.

    The entry, chosen on merit, lists Rema's achievements in the areas of civil engineering education and industry, as well as her leadership of (and extensive involvement in) community ethnic groups, language teaching, speech competitions and multicultural projects.
