Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

    The CQUniversity Doctor of Business Research graduate has been working at Facilities Management most recently, applying his research model to improve utilisation of the University's building management systems.

  • Free workshop to inform Gladstone residents about air quality monitoring

    CQUniversity will team with the EPA and the Clean Air Society of Australia and New Zealand to offer a specialized Air Quality Workshop to the people of Gladstone, on Tuesday March 31.

    This FREE public information session will explain what air quality guidelines are and how they are set, what happens to pollutants in the air, how to interpret the results of air quality monitoring and much more.

  • Responses to animal abuse 'muddled and muzzled'

    Efforts to reduce animal abuse will continue to be hampered unless society finds ways to increase reporting and to ensure that penalities are appropriate.

    That is according to Dr Tania Signal, a senior lecturer in Psychology at CQUniversity, who will present a FREE public talk about community responses to animal abuse.

  • Uni hopes weekend lessons 'do compute' with students

    They are an industrious lot in the port city of Gladstone, to the extent that university students are giving up part of their weekends for  computing workshops.

    The Foundations of Business Computing (FOBC) course is piloting weekend sessions (the first on March 21) instead of the standard weekly lecture-tutorial schedule.

    They engaged with scientists involved in pharmacology, river health, aquaponics, immunology, 'natural sweetener' (stevia) plants and compost tea.
