Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

  • CQU Connections visitors get taste of marketing

    CQU Marketing lecturers Jim Callan and Meredith Parrish ran a session encouraging high school students to engage in team work and gain a basic understanding of marketing as part of the CQU Connections program recently.

    The students were given an unlimited budget to promote their school formal and to secure their favourite band to perform.

    CQU lecturers Daryl Alcock, Jillian Litster, Kylie Radel and Robyn Alcock engaged high school students in a simulated board meeting, reviewing a tourism business proposal as part of the CQU Connections program.

    The interactive activity illustrated how business disciplines such as marketing, accounting, HRM, management, tourism and information systems are integrated within an organisation.

  • Graduating engineers present a tent full of projects

    Alternative power sources were high on the agenda in the big white tent pitched at this year's Graduating Engineers Conference, GECon 2006, on Friday June 23 in Rockhampton.

    Among the innovative projects on show by this year's graduating class were Adrian Murphy's feasibility study on a refrigerator run on solar power and John Brown's analysis of a coal seam methane power generator.

  • More international recognition for CQU modelling and animation lecturer

    CQU 3D modelling and animation lecturer Qing Huang has recorded yet another win in an international digital art competition, thanks to his unique multimedia piece entitled 'The Way'.

    The latest win was the gold award in the open category at Comgraph2006, the 7th Asia Pacific Digital Art and Animation Competition held in Singapore last week (June 20-23).

    The VIPs were on a stop-over on the way to Melbourne after attending an educational conference in Brisbane.

  • French classes resume at Language Centre

    The Alliance Frangaise of Central Queensland will be offering French lessons in July at the CQU Language Centre (buildings 12 and 13) in Rockhampton.

    Weekly lessons will be held every Wednesday for the duration of the school term (11 weeks) from 6.

  • CQU Brisbane lecturer presents in Tunisia on an 'intercultural playground'

    CQU Brisbane International Campus lecturer, Donna Wright, will be presenting a paper relating to her PhD research on intercultural communication, at the 4th International Conference on New Directions in the Humanities, being held in Tunisia in July.

    Ms Wright’s research is titled, 'Big Blue Ball: Pictures, people, place – An intercultural playground for creative conversations'.

  • CQU Brisbane celebrates library week

    Library and Information Week celebrations were held at the Brisbane International Campus recently.

    Students and staff were keen competitors in the 'Matching the Staff Photo' and 'How many books in the yellow bag' competitions, with two students taking out the final prize: MD Hamidul Hogue and Fan Lu.
