Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

    Rockhampton audiences will be treated to a premiere dance work, presented by Bachelor of Performing Arts students and choreographed by visiting industry professional, Zaimon Vilmanis (Expressions Dance Company).

    Along with this work, audiences are invited to a showcase of dance film work undertaken by Advanced Level students in the performing arts.

    From July, teachers keen to lead their profession, can undertake 3 project-based courses on their way to a new Graduate Diploma of Learning Management (e-Learning) via Central Queensland University.

    CQU was a silver sponsor for the second annual 'Big Wrap for Nurses' - the Sunshine Coast event (on May 4), which kicked off a week of celebrations for International Nurses' Day.

    University nursing staff and student representatives, nursing recruitment agency RNS and the Noosa Hospital staff were among those involved in the big event.

    CQU-sponsored rugby team the Outback Barbarians have been a hit on their tour of the United States, with TV appearances, comprehensive victories and trophies coming their way. 

    Tour wins so far have included a 75-6 victory over the Spokane Razorbacks and a 25-0 victory over the Missoula Maggots.

    Gladstone Pacific Nickel Ltd and Central Queensland University recently congratulated Amie Anastasi, the very first recipient of the newly-established Co-Funded Industry Scholarship (CIS).

    Amie's PhD topic, to be completed under the CIS, is 'Trace Metal Dynamics in Port Curtis, Queensland'.

  • Teens exposed to career options in Multimedia, Media and the Arts

    Students from Rockhampton High School, North Rockhampton High School, Girls' Grammar, Mt Morgan High School, CQ Christian College, The Cathedral College and Glenmore High School were earlier this month (May 1) able to participate in a Career Industry Tour in Multimedia, Media and the Arts.

    Thanks to Career Links Inc, students were able to spend a full day experiencing a range of activities in real work settings.
