Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

    Central Queensland University welcomed Chinese student Cuicui Song to Rockhampton this week as part of her prize for winning CQU’s Project China Competition.

    Ms Song won 1of 2 CQU study tour scholarships up for grabs through a web-based competition open to Chinese students aimed at increasing Chinese student numbers at CQU.

    Animated animal characters and a virtual panorama are among features of a new state-of-the-art educational CD-Rom produced at CQU.

    The interactive multimedia resource will be officially launched next Thursday (September 7) at the North Keppel Island Environmental Education Centre (NKIEEC).

    CQU Performing Arts student Julia Thornton has won the $1000 first prize at the 2006 Rocky Fringe Short Film Competition and Festival, with Business/Marketing student Jason Gibson highly commended on the night (Aug 25).

    Ms Thornton's 'City for Lifestyle' entry was a montage evoking the effects of society on the environment.

    Ten CQU Sydney International Campus students gave up their time recently (Aug 14) to help The Smith Family's Christmas Fundraising Drive, during the annual Corporate Volunteer Week.

    Working alongside a team of 25 volunteers and The Smith Family staff, the CQU team worked throughout the day and their efforts will help raise $25,000 for The Smith Family over the Christmas period.
