Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

  • New course seeks improved responses to domestic violence

    Queensland's first accredited domestic and family violence training course is being regionally launched by Jan Jarratt, State Member for Whitsunday and Parliamentary Secretary for the Minister for Women on Thursday 20th September at 2pm at the Queensland Centre for Domestic and Family Violence Research, Central Queensland University, Boundary Rd, Mackay.

    "This training course is unique in that it is the first training course on responding to domestic and family violence to be accredited in Queensland", said Heather Nancarrow, Director of the Queensland Centre for Domestic and Family Violence Research.

    The Rockhampton Horse Riding for the Disabled Association (RHRDA) is hosting a Wine and Cheese Evening on Friday, September 21, at Rockhampton Customs House, in an effort to raise awareness and much-needed funds.

  • CQU announces Voluntary Separations and end of some Fixed term Contracts

    In line with the University's stated commitment to match its staff requirements to student numbers,  Central Queensland University today announced that it will support 46 staff who have elected to take Voluntary Separation, and a further 22 staff will complete their fixed term contracts at the end of their current contract period.

    Today's announcement follows the non-renewal of 34 fixed-term contracts at the end of June.

    Almost 100 delegates from 31 Trefoil Guilds throughout Queensland met at Cool Waters on the Capricorn Coast recently (September 7-9) for their 30th Biennial Conference.

    Trefoil Guilds are made up of older women who meet, under the banner of Girl Guides Australia, to support their communities by carrying on the good work that is the ethic of guiding, and for fellowship.
