Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

    Both students and staff came dressed as traditional Aussies, wearing shorts and thongs, and enjoyed the feast of traditional ‘Aussie Tucker’: meat pies, damper, Vegemite sandwiches, lamingtons and ANZAC biscuits.

    CQU’s School of Health and Human Performance and researcher Dr Cristina Caperchione have been instrumental in heading up a new student exchange agreement between Australia and Canada.

    The new Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) agreement facilitates cooperation between CQU and the institution from which Dr Caperchione graduated in Canada, the University of Windsor.

  • Former CQU Council Member humbled by Australia Day Award

    CQU engineering graduate and recent CQU Council Member Tim Griffin has been honoured with the Medal of the Order of Australia in the General Division as part of the Australia Day 2007 awards.

    Mr Griffin has been described as a “people’s person”, and he is both humbled and honoured by being recognised by his peers within the local, national and international Engineering Profession and Rockhampton community, for his contribution to both his profession and local regional community.

    A small gathering assembled at Central Queensland University Melbourne International Campus last Tuesday to honour the memory and academic achievement of Ms Aanchal Sharma (deceased).

    On behalf of the Chancellor, Rennie Fritschy and Vice-Chancellor, Professor John Rickard, the Campus Director, Darryl Stewart made the presentation of the award of Master of Accounting (Posthumous), together with the appropriate set of academic robes, to the Guest of Honour, Surekha Sharma, Aanchal’s mother.

  • Ali's work is not 'lost in translation'

    CQU PhD student based in Melbourne Ali Darwish has been selected to receive the Gibran International Literary Award for 2007 for his book titled ‘Language, Translation and Identity in the Age of the Internet, Satellite Television and Directed Media’.

    The Award also recognises Ali’s outstanding work in the areas of translation and linguistics.
