Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

  • Students create vision for youth

    CQU’s first-year Bachelor of Learning Management students hosted a Futures Expo at the Ron Smyth Building (Early Childhood Building) at 240 Quay Street, Rockhampton, today (Friday October 10).

    The expo was open to the public and showcased BLM students’ visions of preferred futures for youth.

    CQU's Plant Sciences Group recently hosted a visit by 80 salinity researchers, policy makers, primary producers and advocates taking part in the 9th National Conference on Productive Use and Rehabilitation of Saline Land.

    The visitors observed on-going salinity research in the Plant Sciences Group's Rockhampton facility, which focuses on the novel technique of improving plants’ ability to exclude salts by aerating the root zone, using aerated water through subsurface drip irrigation.

  • CQU awardee Leah Purcell develops career

    Entertainer and former Wide Bay-Burnett resident Leah Purcell, who received an Honorary Masters degree at the 2002 CQU Bundaberg graduation ceremony, has been appointed as a 2004 Eisenhower Fellow.

    The actor, writer, singer and director will travel throughout the United States on the Fellowship, meeting with leaders in her field of performing arts and education.

    Lisa is a fifth-generation teacher but developed this career path late after initially being enrolled in psychology and later accounting degree subjects, and after a job as a building industry accountant.

  • Community groups in the running for 10,000 Steps funds

    10,000 Steps Rockhampton, sponsored by Queensland Health and based at CQU, is offering several small grants for community groups to encourage and support different approaches to increasing physical activity.

    Round 2 of the Community Grant Scheme will be available from Monday, October 13, with applications closing on Friday, November 21, at 4pm.
