Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

  • Kiwanis CQU Brisbane Club raises funds for the deaf

    During Butterfly Week, April 2003, members of the Kiwanis CQU Brisbane Club raised $1424 in support of Children of the Hear and Say Centre on Queensland’s Gold Coast.

    Butterflies were sold at a special picnic day held at Paradise Point, as well as within the University.

    Thirty-six year 10 students from Rockhampton and surrounding districts Got SET for Uni this week when they experienced science, engineering and technology (SET) at a Central Queensland University one-day program.

    This was the second Get SET for Uni program to be held this year with the final program to be staged on June 18.

    CQU’s Foundational Professor of Contemporary Nursing William Lauder will suggest a major restructure of the current educational framework for nursing in Australia at a public professorial lecture next week in Rockhampton.

    Professor Lauder’s lecture “Future Directions for Nurse Education and Research” will be held at CQU Rockhampton, next Wednesday June 11 from 6pm in building 18, room G.

    Five South Korean nurses have been farewelled after upgrading their qualifications to bachelor degree level, during an 18-month stint in Australia.

    The Seoul group has been hosted by Mercy Aged Care Services and the Mater Hospital Acute Care Unit as part of their studies in the Bachelor of Health (Nursing) degree with the CQU School of Nursing and Health Studies.

    Cancer survivors are encouraged to walk a lap of honour to lead about 50 fundraising teams involved in Rockhampton's Relay for Life event this weekend.

    Relay for Life is a major Queensland Cancer Fund event due to be held this weekend (May 31-June 1) at the CQU Rockhampton athletics track.
