Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

    A team of nursing staff members (and 2 husbands) have recently won the Capricornia Division of GPs - Six Month Lifestyle Challenge (Steps Challenge).

    The 'Super Strutters' team comprising Nursing & Health Studies staff members Sarah Ellis (team captain), Meg Wilson and Jackie Ryan, plus 2 husbands of staff, Stuart Plant and Patrick Wilson, won the 6-month challenge from an extensive line-up of other teams, including another CQU Nursing team which came a close second.

  • Boral and CQU launch engineering incentive

    Boral Asphalt Queensland has launched a $14,000 scholarship agreement with Central Queensland University to attract more students to civil engineering and address the current skills shortage.

    Boral Area Manager for Central Queensland, Rick Rolfe said the scholarship not only offers financial incentive to students, but is backed by sustainable employment opportunities.

    Central Queensland Conservatorium of Music (CQCM) lecturer Mark Gasser and CQCM student Kathleen Campbell were put on the spot last month at an eisteddfod performance that lost power half way through.

    Kathleen was just 1 page into the song when the lights went out, but impressed adjudicators by continuing to sing her choice of operatic aria.

    Central Queensland University will work with the 'Digital Agenda' for the roll-out of e-Health initiatives throughout the South American nation of Chile.

    CQU this week signed a Memorandum of Understanding (Monday, November 13 at CQU Sydney International Campus) with the Chilean Ministry of Health to build the capacity of the health informatics workforce in areas including electronic health records, telemedicine, web-based medical technologies and educational programs.

    Toastmasters is an international organisation that helps people learn the arts of better speaking, listening and thinking which ultimately build leadership and communication skills.

    Since depression, anxiety and stress often overlap, it is important to reveal the primary cause of problems in order to plan the pathway for treatment.

    The first meeting of the newly established OH&S Committee for the Sydney Graduate Campus identified the need for members to undertake a WorkCover Authority of NSW-approved course in OHS Consultation.

    The course selected was run by the Australian Red Cross and ran for 4 days.
