- More engineering for Mackay

CQU this week announced the availability of the first 2 years of its Professional Engineering degree on campus at Mackay from 2007.
It is expected that the engineering cohort on Mackay campus in 2007 will total 50 students made up of current students as well as 2007 commencing students.

Teams from 7 Rockhampton and Capricorn Coast schools contested the 2006 CQU High Schools Science Quiz held on Wednesday evening as part of the University’s celebration of Science Week.
Following tightly contested preliminary rounds and knockout semi-finals, the team of the Rockhampton Grammar School prevailed over that of Emmaus College.

CQU Bundaberg's Associate Professor Karl Neuenfeldt contributed the sociological and demographic research underpinning a 'Boom Baby Boom' exhibition, which has toured to over a dozen locations across Australia.
Dr Neuenfeldt - a baby boomer himself - is also the keynote speaker for a special 'Boom Baby Boom' event next week - in conjunction with the exhibition - to celebrate Seniors Week 2006 at the Queensland Museum.

Staff, students and community members are welcome at the 4th annual Central Queensland Junior Robotics Competition hosted by CQU.
The competition will be held on Sunday August 20, from 10am to 3pm in the drama and music areas of the Creative Arts precinct of CQU Rockhampton (buildings 4 and 5).

Recently-retired CQU Professor Lesley Warner has been recognised for developing a program which has prepared thousands of women for tertiary level studies in science and technology.
A morning tea was held at CQU Rockhampton on Tuesday, August 22, to honour her contribution to the enabling program.

During 2005, Central Queensland University underwent an audit facilitated by the Australian Universities Quality Agency (AUQA).
This audit of the University’s domestic and international operations and systems was completed on October 21, 2005.

Students of CQU Sydney International Campus were treated to a very informative and successful Orientation program to launch the second term of 2006.
Undergraduate and postgraduate students from all backgrounds received information in areas ranging from academic issues to personal safety and including how to make their stay in Australia more enjoyable.
- $10,000 STEPS teacher awarded for top job

Central Queensland University lecturer Jennifer Simpson was awarded with a $10,000 Carrick award for an outstanding contribution to student learning at a ceremony at Customs House in Brisbane last week.
Mrs Simpson was specifically commended for “creating an inspirational learning and teaching environment that instils marginalised learners with the self-confidence, skills and knowledge to embark on a university education”.
- International visitors welcomed at luncheon

CQU held a welcome luncheon for some international visitors in Rockhampton last week.
Among them was Kang Liting (Shirley), from Shanghai, China, who was the winner of the Queensland Cup English Competition.
