Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

    Flavio Coelho, a Faculty of Engineering and Physical Systems postgraduate student at CQU Gladstone Campus, recently received recognition for a paper he presented at an international conference.

    Flavio represented Central Queesland University at the 7th International Conference on ISO (International Organization for Standardization) 9000 and TQM (Total Quality Management) where he delivered a paper that considered a new methodology for performance evaluation of management systems.

  • Cluden Koala Released

    After four months of rest and recuperation at the Cluden Wildlife Management Unit, a young, male koala was recently released back into his natural habitat. The Koala was rescued by a Boyne Valley resident who found it on the side of the road, blinded by a severe case of conjunctivitis.

    Wednesday night saw 30 students compete at Central Queensland University’s Business Challenge with their Year 12 peers from area high schools, in a bid to be the champions.

    Brendan Hill, Shinasa Wasimi and Tenille Ashton each won a web cam donated by Ipex Information Technology Group and First Year Study Kit of books and university costs, with CD Burner and software presented to their school.

    Central Queensland University received a US$7,500 donation this week from the Bechtel Corporation, one of the world's leading engineering, construction, and project management companies. Ian Maers, General Manager of Mining and Metals/Asia Pacific Region, said the scholarship reflected his commitment to higher education in the region and that the funding was intended for engineering and materials management students.
