Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

    Flaunting their frocks, loud shirts, walking canes and hats the first year students were extremely enthusiastic about making the medical interviews appear as realistic as possible according to Nursing and Health Studies lecturer Judi Parson .

    In a first for CQU Mackay, Head of Campus Phillip Clift awarded $250 cheques to four mentors in recognition of their dedication for helping first-year students settle into university life.

    The support offered by Karin Barron, Maria Harris, Esther McIlvenna and Adrianne Page was acknowledged in front of 50 staff and students who attended the awards dinner.

    It was an emotional and raucous “goodbye” -- filled with laughter, jokes, and hugs -- to Deputy Vice Chancellor Rhondda Jones, on the lawn outside the Chancellery Office in Rockhampton Friday.

    DVC Jones, along with husband Robin Gilliver -- who developed a central records system for the university -- returned to North Queensland after a 10-month appointment at CQU.
