Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

    World-class women's football (soccer) referee Jacqui Leleu has her sights set on a career in cancer nursing, following her graduation with a Bachelor of Nursing from CQUniversity this week.

    Jacqui has previously worked as a dental assistant in Rockhampton and has played women's football locally, but she's best known as an international referee.

    Mingjing Chen tracked nationalist propaganda surrounding both the Sydney and Beijing Olympics to earn her PhD, supervised by CQUniversity's Professor Denis Cryle.

    Her thesis focused on reportage of the Olympic preparation phases in both the Australian newspaper and China's People's Daily to compare the similarities and differences between the two publications.

  • Teen trio ready for time in the SUN

    Year 10 Geordie Williamson, Year 11 Michelle Braddon and Year 12 Ben Christmass managed to start their Functional Biology residental school at CQUniversity Rockhampton without any fanfare this week.

    They were integrated into their cohort of older teens and adults without other students realising they are still at school and enrolled via the SUN (Start Uni Now) program.
