Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

    Australian singer-songwriter Graeme Connors' first DVD release was recorded in front of a live audience at CQU's Central Queensland Conservatorium of Music in Mackay.

    CQU Plant Sciences is helping with an ice-to-eskimo type project which includes the aim of exporting Asian vegetables to a Japanese company.

    Plant Sciences research officer Daniel White recently met with representatives of Morita Agriculture Research Centre in Bundaberg, after Professor David Midmore received an invitation to be involved.

    CQU’s Shaune Sinclair and Jillian Litster introduced CQU staff and other educators and trainers from the region to the possibility of streaming multimedia content for teaching and learning purposes.

    CQU’s Indigenous learning, spirituality and research centre, Nulloo Yumbah is offering mature aged people in the region the chance to study at university.

    The successful bridging program, Tertiary Entrance Program (TEP), has limited vacancies in its on-campus program for people aged between 19 and 99 who may not have completed school.

  • Over 500 CQU Mackay first-year students set to begin studies

    Just over 500 prospective Central Queensland University Mackay students have been offered a chance to begin tertiary studies in 2004.

    The number of offers is similar to those made in 2003, with the university’s five faculties receiving interest from local, interstate and international students.

    Thirty-two year 10 girls from throughout Central Queensland got a taste of unconventional careers for women at the inaugural CQU Girls in Maths, Science and Technology Summer School this week.

    Students got the chance to tour the Glenmore Water Treatment Plant and see laboratory employees carrying out testing of the treatment plant process and algal analyses.
