CQU's Central Queensland Conservatorium of Music will take an active role in the 2003 Mackay Festival of Arts, from July 19-25.
The festival is now driven by the Mackay City Council and is a collaborative project with key identities within the city, including CQCM.

Central Queensland University is helping to stage the first ISANA International Education Association Conference to be held outside a major urban centre.
(ISANA is short for International Student Advisers' Network of Australia, but the conference name has been broadened to include a much wider range of participants).

Vice-Chancellor Professor Glenice Hancock has been thanked for facilitating provision of new premises for the Central Queensland Area Consultative Committee's regional office.
A crowd of 100 was on hand to witness the official opening of the premises by Deputy Prime Minister John Anderson (July 16).

CQU Bachelor of Communication students Kim Lester and Chris Lynch have been recruited to join Triple J's J Division project.
Under the project, they will be trained to research and produce Central Queensland regional stories for national broadcast on Triple J.

Griffith University’s Associate Professor Bradley Bowden has discussed the success and downfalls of the Queensland coal industry, during a visit to CQU.
Professor Bowden has researched the trends in the Queensland coal industry over the past 30 years, particularly the changes in employment in the sector.

CQU's Associate Professor Ross Shepherd and PhD student Joe Daley from Informatics and Communication have been involved in the biennial conference of the Association for the Advancement of Animal Breeding and Genetics (AAABG) which was a satellite conference of the XIX International Congress of Genetics, held in Melbourne earlier this month.
The congress involved six Nobel Laureates, 300 elite international speakers and more than 2700 delegates from 67 countries.

Central Queensland University has announced Rockhampton international student Kumar Gourav as the Face of the Fair.
President of the Central Queensland University International Student Alliance (CQUISA), 25-year-old Kumar will be the 2003 CQ Multicultural Fair and CQU Open Day’s community ambassador.

Former CQU lecturer Dr Grant Abt has returned to visit some of his former colleagues in the School of Health and Human Performance.
For the past three years, Grant has been teaching at St Martin's College (affiliated with Lancaster University) in the area of exercise physiology.

An international singer will join a cast of more than 100 local performers for Rockhampton’s 4th annual Night of the Proms, from 7pm on Sunday, August 31, at the Pilbeam Theatre.
Before moving to Brisbane only 18 months ago, English-born soprano Louise Kennedy spent an active career performing solo roles with professional companies such as London’s Royal Opera, the English National Opera, the Academy of Saint Martin in the Fields, the Welsh National Opera and New York’s Metropolitan Opera.

Rockhampton can benefit greatly from the English language study phenomenon, which contributes more than $800 million to the Australian economy each year.
That is according to English Australia executive director Sue Blundell, who will visit the Language Centre at Central Queensland University Rockhampton on Thursday, July 17.
