Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

    The former CQU International held an Exit Party last week which incorporated a farewell to Director of Marketing Gabrielle Rolan.

    Held at Lavenia James’ home, the party has been reported to have been a very fun evening with most International staff, as well as some ‘ring-ins’, attending.

  • Biloela and Moura students attend CQU camp

    About 60 students from the Biloela and Moura districts attended Central Queensland University’s Maths and Information Technology Camp yesterday and today (Thursday August 3 and Friday August 4).

    The visiting students, from years 7 to 10, attended workshops in maths, robotics, engineering, problem solving, animation, biology, chemistry, “Zing Thing” and billionaires.

    CQU’s wastewater guru Ben Kele attended a wastewater training and installation day at Happy Valley last month.

    About 17 environmental health officers from 9 different councils, along with representatives from the Department of Health, universities, as well as other consultants, witnessed the installation of an evapo-transpiration/absorption system.

    Thousands of visitors are expected to visit the marina and CQU campus to enjoy the activities at the campus and the entertainment and cuisine from the Festival.

    Two CQU programs have been nominated for a Carrick Award in the category ‘Awards for Programs that Enhance Learning”.

    The Bachelor of Engineering (Co-op) Program has been nominated under the category of “Educational Partnerships and collaborations with other organisations”, whilst the Skills for Tertiary Education Preparatory Studies (STEPS) program has been nominated under the category “Services supporting student learning for specific groups of students”.

    About 120 cattle station owners, old ringers and boss drovers made the roof beams ring at the Charters Towers Racetrack reception for veteran CQU Press author Marion Houldsworth last Friday (July 28).

    Ms Houldsworth had travelled to Queensland from Sussex in the UK for the celebration.
