Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

    It was all ‘action’ for about 30 students from Warraburra Primary School, Gracemere, last week when they visited CQU’s Multimedia Design Centre.

    The students had the opportunity to tour both publishing and the video production unit.

    Sixty graduates from China and Hong Kong attended the ceremony at the Royal Plaza Hotel in Kowloon.

    A fast-tracked three-year degree option has proved popular for 36 of the 50 students who were pioneers in the Bachelor of Learning Management program at Central Queensland University's Noosa Hub at Pomona.

    This week (November 6), the first 36 students celebrated completion of their studies, thanks to an innovative three-term option.

  • Lecturer represents Australia at Hawaiian Ironman

    Dr Harvey Griggs, a senior lecturer in the School of Management, recently represented Australia at the Ironman World Championships in Kona, Hawaii.

    Dr Griggs won the right to represent Australia by competing in the New Zealand Ironman in March 2003, where he finished 2nd in the 50-54 age group.

  • Cancer cure supporters not Bundy pirates

    The sight of bandanas around CQU Bundaberg was not thankfully three stranded pirates but rather a commitment by staff to support a worthy cause.

    It was National Bandana Day and as can be seen from the photograph the Faculty of Informatics and Communication Associate Lecturer Donna Carpenter, STEPS Administration Assistant Therese O’Donnell and Informatics and Communication Associate Lecturer Miles Greber were keen to play a part in a cure for cancer.

    Th concert is being presented as a personal thank-you to the residents of Rockhampton and surrounding districts for the support and encouragement shown to him over the past three years he has been working at CQU.
