Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

    Twenty-nine Korean students, on a study tour visit to Central Queensland University, arrived in Rockhampton just in time to see South Korea fight it out on the field against Spain in the World Cup on Saturday.

    CQU students picnic with the Minister of Education Four CQU students from the Brisbane International campus recently attended an Aussie Picnic Lunch with the Honourable Anna Bligh MP, Minister of Education, on the Speaker’s Green of Parliament House in Brisbane.

    The event was organised by the Office of Higher Education as an opportunity for the Minister to meet with and welcome international students to Queensland.

    The Good Universities Guide 2003 is out and Central Queensland University (CQU) gets first-class ratings in four areas that help potential students across Australia determine the right University, the right campus and the right course.

    Editors, noting that CQU "rates well in the eyes of graduates", gave CQU five stars -- the highest rating -- for its Education Experience, up one star from last year.

  • "Key" Students Awarded Scholarships

    Central Queesland University is recognising three top academic performers.

    The CQU chapter of the Golden Key International Honour Society, which presents scholarships to outstanding students, awarded $800 each to Penelope-Jane Fry, Leanne Martin and Jodie Grange based on their academic achievement, active involvement in community service and extensive work experience.

    Townsville dancer Holly Headrick has moved to Rockhampton to embark on a Bachelor of Performing Arts degree with Central Queensland Conservatorium of Music.

    One of her first outlets was the inaugural production of Horrors in Rocky, the interactive version of the Rocky Horror Picture Show.

    128 members of the Stanwell Corporation have joined the CQU-based 10,000 steps program. Spokeswoman Jo Dickson says Stanwell is the first corporation to come on board with the “get-fit” program and that the workers would provide motivation for each other.
