Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

    CQU academic Dr Jeannette Delamoir has been featured on TV and radio recently with her comments about the emergence of Bush TV.

    Interviews with Dr Delamoir have played on ABC State News, Stateline and the Central Australian Aboriginal Media Association Radio Network 8 KIM FM, broadcasting Aboriginal radio to remote and regional Australia (in fact it covers one third of the continent).

  • CQU confirms future of Language Centre

    CQU has confirmed the long-term future of its Language Centre after a exploring a range of possibilities and considering a variety of feedback.

    The University has determined that the Language Centre should remain a part of CQU and that the reporting relationships should be realigned from the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Education to the Division of Teaching and Learning Services effective May 1 2007.

    The collection of 10 research studies - Re-Visioning Research and Knowledge for the 21st Century- was launched in late April.

    The Finance Department at Sydney International Campus recently dedicated itself to improving customer service and relations with students through initiatives implemented by the Finance team.

    One of the numerous tasks which Finance undertakes is encouraging students to update their Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) on campus.

  • Law lecturers obtain teaching grant

    A small group of Law lecturers (Jenny Butler, Dr Kristy Richardson and Eric Holm) from the Faculty of Business and Informatics are determined to assist students in their learning journey through Business Law subjects. 

    The lecturers have recently conditionally been granted a Learning & Teaching Development Grant, to the value of $5000, to develop methods of teaching law skills to non-law students.

  • CQU academic recognised as College of Nursing Fellow

    Marc Broadbent, an academic and registered nurse based at CQU Noosa Hub, has been honoured with recognition as a Fellow of The College of Nursing.

    The award is based on peer review of CV and portfolio materials and is the highest level of recognition within The College, exemplifying nursing professionalism.

    Members of the Relay for Life committee have met at CQU Rockhampton's sporting fields to map out tent positions for the overnight Queensland Cancer Fund fundraiser, on Saturday and Sunday, May 19 and 20.
