Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

  • Students gather for end of study celebrations

    A severe storm did not dampen the spirits of Business & Law students who had gathered to celebrate completing their final term of study on the Rockhampton Campus recently.

    While there appeared to an abundance of those completing a Bachelor of Business (Accounting) degree, other students attended and all were glad to have completed the requirements of their degree program.

    CQU's School of Chemical and Biomedical Sciences has hosted a visit by one of Australia's leading chemistry researchers in a bid to keep its courses as fresh and industry relevant as possible.

    Professor Paul Haddad, an expert on separation science and analytical and environmental chemistry, was invited as a sounding board and extra perspective for the School's self-driven strategic analysis.

    Out-going CQU Library Society president and renowned concert pianist Regis Danillon was farewelled recently at the Society’s final meeting for 2003.

    CQU Library Manager Pauline McNee said Mr Danillon would be missed greatly by the Library Society, after being on the committee for three years and president for 2003.

  • Rockhampton lecturer awarded his first ARC grant

    Central Queensland University’s media historian Dr Denis Cryle has been awarded an ARC Discovery Grant to pursue a project that investigates the role and changing significance of an international media body.

    The project, Empire and Antipodes: Australian-New Zealand involvement in the Empire/Commonwealth Press Union (1909-1970), will be undertaken in collaboration with Dr Chandrika Kaul, St Andrews University, Scotland.

    Throughout the world, the numbers of male teachers particularly in primary schools is rapidly declining.

  • CQU prominent at sports medicine event

    CQU School of Health and Human Performance (HHP) staff were prominent during the recent Sports Medicine Australia 2003 Australian Conference of Science and Medicine in Sport.

    HHP Biomechanist Adam Bryant received the British Journal of Sports Medicine Award for Best Clinical Sports Medicine Poster for his paper "Is tibial acceleration related to knee functionality in ACL deficient and ACL reconstructed patients?".

  • Outback culture and heritage fans help CQU Press reach 10th birthday

    CQU Press has published a vast range of books but it has become the only university press in the world to specialise in northern Australia's outback culture and heritage.

    The CQU Press imprint called Old Silvertail's Outback Books has certainly helped keep the dream alive.

  • State Development leaders visit Rockhampton

    State Development leaders Mike Hefferan and Brian Anker and commercialisation expert Dr Rowan Gilmore visited CQU Rockhampton on Thursday, October 30, on their way to Friday's opening of Gladstone's Processing Engineering Light Metals (PELM) Centre.

    Mr Hefferan is the Executive Director, Industry Development, for the Department of State Development.
