Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

  • Media training on tour for Staff

    Eight more media training sessions have been scheduled in Rockhampton, Bundaberg, Mackay, Gladstone following the success of November’s workshop for researchers in Rockhampton.

    These sessions are scheduled primarily for the Faculty of Business & Law staff and research students.

  • Online Learning software under review

    The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and Research) has requested that the Division of Teaching and Learning Services (DTLS) lead an immediate review of the WebCT Online Learning Management System (OLMS) following an announcement of a major overhaul of the system made by the software supplier.

    CQU has been advised that the overhaul will result in major change to the present system, therefore, the university does not have the option to retain the status quo.

    Central Queensland University staff and students recently made time during their busy end of year exam period to contribute to the Salvation Army Christmas appeal.

    The collection of non-perishable food items and small toys was organised by the CQU Golden Key Chapter, an honour society that recognises academic achievement and focuses on community service and involvement.

    The Faculty of Informatics and Communication Quality Management System was externally audited by Sci-Qual International early this month and was successful in obtaining ISO 9001 certification. Professor Marshall, Faculty Dean, announced the department had been issued Certificate of Registration Number 954.

    Two CQU Rockhampton staff members were presented with The Vice-Chancellor's Award for Excellence during the University's holiday celebrations Monday.

    "They are role models to other staff of the university," said Vice Chancellor and President Glenice Hancock.

  • CQU Library getting clean and green

    Central Queensland University Library has implemented some sustainable practices as part of the University’s Clean and Green approach to its operations.

    The Library’s environmental officer Kelli Graham said boxes and paper were being recycled, books were recycled or sold, computers were used until they were unrepairable and printer cartridges were re-used.
