Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

    The visitors from the Association of Norwegian Students Abroad (ANSA) toured CQU Rockhampton Campus during a familiarisation visit to Queensland.

    The CQU Connections Uni Experience is giving students from low income backgrounds the confidence and skills to tackle tertiary education.

    The Uni Experience, from June 30 to July 4, will enable up to 40 Year 11 and 12 students from target schools throughout the region to experience university life for three days and four nights, staying at the Capricornia College, the University’s residential college.

    Federal Minister for Science and Member for Gippsland, the Honourable Peter McGauran, and his Chief of Staff Greg Evans, met with the Vice-Chancellor Glenice Hancock and Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic and Research) Ron Davies this week.

    Mr McGauran and Mr Evans later toured areas of scientific interest at CQU Rockhampton including the near infrared spectroscopy fruit sorting division, Centre for Railway Engineering and the Plant Sciences facilities.

  • Biologist shares knowledge with high schoolers

    CQU’s entomologist (a specialist in insects) Dr Bob Newby and Senior Technical Officer in the School of Biological and Environmental Sciences Paul Graham shared their knowledge and expertise with a group of grade 11 students from Glenmore High School recently.

    The students studied a range of invertebrate animals that could be found in the backyard including scorpions, spiders, centipedes, millipedes, insects, as well as plants.
