Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

    The Central Queensland University student of Human Movement Science and resident of CQU's Capricornia College in Rockhampton said her life has certainly changed since a devastating car crash left her paraplegic in 2003, but believes her love of life and sport helps her overcome each challenge day by day.

    That is according to Acting Dean of Education and Creative Arts Professor Richard Smith, who will launch the degree on Wednesday in the presence of potential local stakeholders.

    Professor Richard Smith, Acting Dean of the Faculty of Education & Creative Arts, has just been announced as Chair of a new Ministerial Advisory Committee on Education Renewal.

    Education Minister Anna Bligh said the new committee will develop innovative approaches to achieving Queensland's Smart State vision for education in Queensland.

    CQU lectuer Sonja Cleary has been appointed to the Cardiovascular Nurses Working Party, a national body affiliated with the Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand (CSANZ).

    Ms Cleary, based at CQU Bundaberg, is an undergraduate course coordinator and Masters of Clinical Nursing Coordinator for the streams of Cardiac, Catheter Laboratory and Perioperative.
