Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

    Sonja Cleary, of Central Queensland University, has chosen a hypothetical patient scenario for her presentation to the Cardiac Society of Australia & New Zealand in Perth this week (August 5-8).

    Year 11 and 12 students from throughout the Rockhampton district have attended a 2005 Australian Institute of Physics (Qld) Youth Lecture Tour event at CQU Rockhampton.

    The free event featured one of Australia’s top young physicists, Associate Professor Andrew Luiten, addressing the topic ‘Was Einstein Right?’.

  • Rocky hosts European expert visitors this week

    Rockhampton is hosting a range of international expert visitors from Sweden, England and France this week, thanks to initiatives involving Central Queensland University.

    Rockhampton health workers, especially midwives and nurses, are invited to a free public seminar by visiting Swedish midwifery specialist Dr Ingegerd Hildingsson.

  • Uni showcases its reef fisheries research projects

    Recreational and commercial fishers and other interested people are welcome at a free forum showcasing CQU’s reef fisheries research projects.

    The forum will be held from 7pm-9pm on Thursday, August 4, at CQU Rockhampton Building 6 Room G.

  • CQU features on primetime TV in Indonesia

    CQU will feature on primetime 'student' TV in Indonesia following the visit of a film crew this week.

    A program called 'Cool Schools' will screen on the evening of August 13 on Indonesia's Channel G, including a 25-minute segment on CQU.

  • Non-academic pens award-winning academic paper

    CQU general staff member Patricia Bovingdon (pictured) is lead author of an academic paper which has won an award at a conference in Dublin, Ireland.

    Mrs Bovingdon, a research and development co-ordinator, teamed with Faculty of Business & Law colleague Dr Phil Bretherton to submit the paper about the Chilly Climate Environment for female distance education students.

    Melissa has turned her bruises to Bronze at the 2005 Taekwon Do Senior World Championships held in Caloundra recently.

    The Accounting Mentor Program is a first for CQU, and was recently launched by the Program Coordinator and Sub Dean of Business and Law, Ms Jo Luck.
