Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

  • All tastes catered for at Multicultural Fair and Uni Open Day

    All tastes will be catered for at this year's CQU Multicultural Fair and University Open Day, from 10am to 4pm on Sunday, August 13.

    The Fair is famous for its food stalls and this year will include offerings from 32 different nations, including France, Cambodia, Korea, The Netherlands and Italy.

    Jenny Simpson, from Learning Support in the Division of Teaching and Learning Services, is among 210 Australian teachers to receive citations for outstanding contributions to student learning.

    The citations worth $10,000 each have been announced as the part of the 2006 Carrick Awards for Australian University Teaching.

    Associate Professor Deng was invited by Dr Wei Wang of the School, under the Faculty's (SEH) Distinguished Visitors Program.

    CQU Noosa Hub will next week (2pm, Saturday, July 22) celebrate its third graduation ceremony, at the Sheraton Noosa Resort.

    A total of 37 graduates will attend - most from the innovative learning management program which has been praised at national level.

  • Transient Theatre co-founder works with drama students

    Visiting industry mentor Tony Kishawi has been working at CQU Rockhampton with 3rd-year Bachelor of Performing Arts students in their final drama course, Experimental Theatre, this week and last week.

    Mr Kishawi is co-founder of Transient Theatre, a company which creates and tours movement-based performance.

    139 graduates of Central Queensland University, attended graduation and award ceremonies in Bundaberg.

    Friday, July 14, University and Faculty award winners were presented with their prizes, and on Saturday, July 15, the formal graduation ceremony was held at the Moncrieff Theatre.

    The CQU Gold Coast International Campus Director, Associate Professor Ken Bruce was head of the Australian delegation to the 6th ISO/TC222 (Personal Financial Planning) meeting in New York on June 22-23.

    Mr Bruce has been a technical expert representing Standards Australia since the inception of ISO/TC222 in 2001.

  • Specialists review research on persistent insect pest

    Four entomologists and one agronomist got together on Friday July 7 in the Plant Sciences meeting room to review progress in research on the ecology and management of the silverleaf whitefly.

    This is a particularly persistent insect pest that is hosted by numerous plant species, including many of economic importance such as cotton, tomato, zucchini and sweet pepper.

    As President of the Rockhampton Eisteddfod Association, Associate Professor Les Killion has been putting into practice the approaches to event management that he teaches in the course TOUR 19021 'Events, Leisure and Entertainment'.

    The 2006 Rockhampton Eisteddfod drew approximately 8000 competitors from throughout Central Queensland, Northern New South Wales, Innisfail, Mackay and Emerald.
