Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

  • Indigenous Family Violence Prevention Forum

    The Queensland Centre for Domestic and Family Violence Research (CDFVR) will convene an Indigenous Family Violence Prevention Forum as part of the State-wide Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Month, launched on May 4 by the Minister for Women, the Honourable Desley Boyle.

    The forum’s theme, ‘men and women working together’ recognises that Indigenous men and women are, and need to be, working together to stop violence in their communities.

    After completing her first of two practicum placements for her degree in New Zealand, Bachelor of Arts distance student Brenda Elkins has returned home to Gladstone with an ambition to establish a Smart Recovery Self-Help Addiction Program in New Zealand and later in Gladstone.

    Speaking to the crowd assembled at this week's (Thursday) Relay for Life Clip for Cancer at the Rockhampton Campus Commercial Courtyard, Professor Rickard said the University would find ways to support Anna's sporting endeavours.
