Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

    Central Queensland University Bundaberg’s STEPS coordinator, Karen Seary, is now responsible for overseeing the delivery of the progressive program across Central Queensland’s six campuses.

    Mackay's 'Irish' dancers will line up with 11 Belfast performers and five from elsewhere in Australia to perform in next week's Harte Quest show at the Central Queensland Conservatorium of Music Theatre.

    The Harte Quest Irish Dancers will perform at 8pm on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday (July 10-12), plus 11am on the Thursday and Friday.

    Business and Law certified under ISO 9001:2000 Making initial steps towards a Total Management System, Central Queensland University’s Faculty of Business and Law have been quality certified under ISO 9001:2000.

    Under guidance from Director of QAS International, Brad Bishop, and driven by Acting Dean Les Killion and Administration Services Manager Irene Sharrock, the Faculty’s staff worked hard for seven months to bring processes and systems to certification.

    Students attending the CQ Connections school holiday program at Central Queensland University got a taste of where studying an undergraduate course in electronic journalism could take them.

    Approximately 25 students from year 10 and 11 from towns such as Rockhampton, Mackay, Bundaberg, as well as Longreach, Blackall, Sarina, Miriam Vale, Agnes Water and Clermont spent some of their school holidays learning about courses offered at CQU.

    The academics will dissect Kasey Chambers' vocal twangs, slides and sobs, and Graeme Connors career will be under the microscope.

    Faculty of Education and Creative Arts lecturers Dr Beverley Moriarty, Lyn Hughes, Helen Holden and Val Cleary are the joint recipients of CQU’s Vice-Chancellor’s Award for Quality Teaching for 2002, according to a statement released today.

    “This award recognises that the recipients have demonstrated exceptional teaching skills and support for their students and have created an exciting and challenging environment that stimulates student learning,” said CQU Vice Chancellor and President, Professor Glenice Hancock.
