Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

    The House of Representatives Social Club has invited all occupants to take part in its second 10,000 Steps Challenge for 2006 - (virtually) walking the east coast of Australia in November.

    This group of students ranged from high school-leavers to parents and grandparents.

  • Sydney students 'hands-on' in the community

    This year the CQU Sydney TECC (Training, Employment and Career Coaching) department has created over 150 volunteer positions for students.

    Students have been placed with major community organisations such as the Smith Family, Volunteering NSW, National Parks NSW, WorkVentures, Australian Senior Computer Clubs and the Red Cross.

    Presenters and participants across a large range of ages and backgrounds attended a national 'Weaving Peace' Symposium at CQU Rockhampton this week (October 13).

    CQU hosted the one-day symposium on the intersections, divergences, tensions and contradictions in Western, Eastern and Indigenous beliefs about inner and outer peace, creaturely existence and reconciliation.

    CQU Gladstone-based researcher Dr Leonie Andersen is coordinating a bid for Queensland Smart Innovation Funds to enhance the work of the Port Curtis Integrated Monitoring Program (PCIMP).

    PCIMP undertakes high quality research and monitoring in Port Curtis focusing particularly on contaminants and their effects on the ecosystem.

    The Moon Festival is a big holiday with family reunions, moon gazing activities and feasting on moon cakes.
