Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

    Vice-Chancellor Professor John Rickard was a popular photo companion during a visit to CQU Sydney International Campus recently.

    Word spread about the chance to have an individual photo with the VC and 230 students lined up.

  • T-shirt Thursday on agenda for Relay for Life team members

    Relay for Life team members are encouraged to wear their T-shirts to work on Thursday, May 5.

    The local Relay committee believes this will encourage team pride and give the participants a chance to wear their new shirts (since many will be wearing costumes at the event itself).

  • Rocky student wins prize at international conference

    A Central Queensland University Physics student has won the Best Poster Presentation Prize in the applications section at the 12th International Conference on Near-Infrared Spectroscopy held in Auckland, New Zealand, last week.

    Rockhampton PhD student Clinton Hayes took out the prize in front of 62 other presenters with his poster that discussed the effect of an environmental temperature change on the spectral output of quartz halogen lamps.

  • Masters Keeps Nursing Careers Moving

    Nurses can advance their careers and increase wages by undertaking Central Queensland University’s postgraduate degree in clinical practice.

    The Masters of Clinical Practice (Specialisation) is a new degree offered in 2006 via distance learning which enables nurses to develop knowledge and expertise in speciality areas.

    More than 50 current postgraduate coursework and research students and staff attended the Postgraduate Networking Evening held by the Faculty of Informatics & Communication in Rockhampton last week.

    Guest speakers included School of Information Systems lecturer Louise Hawkins, Associate Dean (Teaching & Learning) Elizabeth Tansley and Margaret Rogers (who recently completed her PhD).

    Ten writers gathered at the former Rockhampton Magistrate's Court (now CQU Journalism) building this week for the first of three Queensland Writers Centre workshops sponsored by CQU's Regional Centre of the Arts.

    QWC Executive Director Dr Martin Buzacott was present to introduce the initial workshop entitled 'Trim, Taut and Teffic: Editing and manuscript preparation, with Sue Abbey'.

  • Choc drive due to support koala research

    CQU staff members have a chance to support koala research by taking part in the CQ Koala Volunteers chocolate drive.

    The group has arranged a special koala themed box of macadamia chocolates (150g) to sell at $6 a box.

  • Former rugby union club members reunite in Rocky

    Past University rugby union players reunited recently to catch up on lost years and celebrate the code they continue to love.

    The former players enjoyed cheering on the sidelines of a CQU/Colts match, attended a “Night to Remember” at the Birdcage Bar on-campus, toured local watering holes, held a barbecue lunch and staged an old boys match at Rugby Park.
