Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

    In a unique response to industry feedback, Central Queensland University (CQU) School of Nursing has made significant changes to its nursing curriculum, which sees extended periods of clinical practice incorporated into an already successful program.

    According to Pam Savage, lecturer in nursing with CQU Mackay, the Bachelor of Health (Nursing) formally offered 2 blocks of 2 weeks work experience in hospitals, per semester.

    The first 2 screenings are on Monday nights (April 10 and April 17) and the final screening is Thursday, May 4.

    The seminar was presented by CQU Adjunct Professor of Property Terry Boyd, who told the audience that Central Queensland’s residential property market was weak.

    Leading Australian dancer and actor Dale Pengelly is in Rockhampton to mentor students enrolled in the Bachelor of Performing Arts degree (BPA) at Central Queensland University.

    The former Gladstone boy has received acclaim in productions including 'David Atkins Hot Shoe Shuffle' and musicals such as 'Singin’ in the Rain', 'The Boy From Oz' and 'Saturday Night Fever'.

    ‘A Piss in the Ocean: Cameron Borg, the Last Punk Rocker?’ hopes to ask questions about Cameron’s creative experiences and his past as a member of several independent punk bands during the 1980s.

  • Campus wishing well invites you to make a change

    A wishing well has been installed in the commercial centre courtyard, with proceeds to the Queensland Cancer Fund Relay for Life (via a campus-based team).

    Staff and students at CQU Gladstone are enjoying the benefits of the recently-completed renovations to the Cyril Golding Library.

    Campus Librarian, Karin Simon, said although staff were still waiting on some items of furniture, they were already getting positive feedback about the new services and modern look.

  • Bad shirts raise funds for cyclone appeal
