Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

    A multi-sports day dubbed the 'Mini-Olympics' included a torch relay and medal ceremonies to bring the event to life.

    Around 60 students and staff members at CQU Rockhampton took part in sports including volleyball, cricket, soccer, bocce, badminton and table tennis.

    Indonesian journalist Seno Suyono, from the prestigious Tempo magazine, found links to home when he visited CQU Rockhampton recently.

    One of the most direct links was to CQU HRM/Management lecturer Michael Muchiri, who was born in Kenya but attended the same university as Seno - Gadjah Mada University, Indonesia's oldest institution - on a student mobility program.

    CQU graduates have continued a long-established trend for gaining annual salaries worth more than the national and state median rates.

    The latest Graduate Careers Australia figures, for bachelor degree Australian citizens and permanent residents, show CQU graduates had an overall median annual salary of $45,000, compared with national and state overall medians of $44,000.
