Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

    Education Queensland teachers from across the Mackay-Whitsunday region attended, along with CQU staff members from the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Education.

    Last week, CQU Mackay students studying Biomedical Science, Environmental Science and Biology took a bus trip to CQU Rockhampton campus, accompanied by lecturer Delma Clifton.

    The purpose of the trip was for the students to meet some of their lecturers face to face, view the facilities and labs and visit Capricornia College, where many of the students will take up residence next year as they commence the second year of their studies.

    A Thai teacher who won a spelling bee and a secretary from the Thai royal palace are among students at the CQU Rockhampton Language Centre.

    Thai teacher Sirinee Nuntasri (pictured left) gained a scholarship to study in Rockhampton as a winner of a national spelling bee run by one of Thailand's top English language newspapers and the Thailand Minstry of Education.
