Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

  • Inaugural Jazz Festival and Conference takes over Hamilton Island

    Budding high school and university musicians from throughout Queensland with take to the stage as part of the inaugural Asia Pacific Jazz Conference and Great Barrier Reef Jazz Festival on Hamilton Island from September 12.

    School students from Gladstone, Moranbah, Rockhampton, Worree and Sarina and CQU university jazz students will attend the event that has attracted internationally renowned musicians and speakers.

  • Hearty donation from 10,000 Steps golf day

    The Central Queensland University-based Queensland Health-funded 10,000 Steps Rockhampton program and the National Heart Foundation announced today the successful outcome of the not-for-profit Corporate Golf Challenge conducted in July 2003 with a total of $ 456 donated to the local National Heart Foundation branch.

    The Corporate Golf Challenge attracted 113 players from a number of Rockhampton based organisations including The Morning Bulletin, The Commonwealth Bank, WIN television, Capricorn Credit Union and this years’ overall winning team Retire Invest/HOTFM.

    In a first for the campus the event included interactive activities alongside displays from each faculty.

    CQCM educator Ian Bofinger said the three-day program allowed the students to attend masterclasses, workshops and concerts.

  • Rail CRC brings together world experts

    The Cooperative Research Centre for Railway Engineering and Technologies (Rail CRC), headquartered at CQU Rockhampton, this week (Wednesday August 27) brought together leading academics, researchers and industrialists from around the world to discuss the latest developments in sensor measurement systems technology.

    Rail CRC chief executive officer Professor Dudley Roach, who welcomed participants to the Sydney event, said the workshop provided a forum for extensive interaction among those interested in the application of sensors and measurement systems to the railway industry.

    One Central Queensland University presentation reports perceptions that in regional Queensland hospitals without 24-hour on-site medical coverage in critical care units, a new advanced nursing practice role is needed to achieve the goal of early treatment for complications.

  • Conservatorium tunes again to country music

    CQU's Central Queensland Conservatorium of Music helped launch last year's inaugural Australian Institute of Country Music Conference at Gympie, and it is back again as sponsor of this year's event.

    Conservatorium industry mentors Dr Geoff Walden and Professor Phil Hayward are also delivering papers at the event held on August 29-30, in parallel with Gympie's National Country Music Muster.
