Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

  • Mixing air into the H2O equation wins researcher award

    Rockhampton plant science researcher Surya Bhattarai has been awarded a $25,500 Endeavour Research Fellowship by the Department of Education, Science and Training (DEST) to continue his pioneering work with oxygation.

    The research fellowship involves a collaborative research project with the Asian Vegetable Research and Development Centre in Taipei, Taiwan and adds to the research base on oxygation (subsurface drip irrigation) for which CQU’s Plant Sciences Group has been a world pioneer.

    Central Queensland University is coordinating a public speech competition for high school students as part of Rockhampton’s Harmony Day celebrations.

    The Rockhampton City Council will celebrate Harmony Day on March 18 with activities staged at the Walter Reid Centre, including the speech competition.

  • Melbourne graduate ranks in top 5% for Charted Accountants exams

    Recently graduated CQU Melbourne International Campus Masters student Harsh Vardan will be awarded a Certificate of Merit in Taxation for ranking in the top 5% in Australia in the recent Charted Accountants examinations.

    Harsh is currently employed in Melbourne as an audit accountant with one of Australia’s ‘Big 4’ accounting firms, Delloitte.

    All interested people are welcome to attend an information and feedback session to discuss the proposed introduction of ethnic language courses for Rockhampton district residents. These courses would be designed to improve communication among family and community members and to keep cultural traditions alive.

  • Journal snaps up CQU conference papers

    Two CQU conference papers have been snapped up by an international journal based on reviewer assessment before going into the proceedings for the event.

    The papers were submitted by Faculty of Business and Informatics researchers for the InSITE 2007 (Informing Science+Information Technology Education) joint conference due in Slovenia in June this year.

  • Pizza fuels Study with Family and Friends event in Sydney

    Pizza was the flavour of the month as Study with Family and Friends (SWFF) held a Pizza Party for all members at the undergraduate CQU Sydney International Campus.

    Many CQU staff and students took part and enjoyed the midday break with refreshments including chips, drinks and of course a variety of pizza flavours to cater for the diversity of taste buds on campus.
