Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

    Nursing & Health Studies staff member John Kemsley, who is based at the Sunshine Coast, has been appointed to the Executive Committee of the Association of Queensland Nurse Leaders.

    Head of the School of Nursing & Health Studies Dr Lorna Moxham said this was great news for John, the School and CQU.

  • Students helped to 'stress less' at CQU Mackay

    CQU Mackay is gearing up for the stressful final exam period and is preparing a Stress Less Day, to be held at the campus on Tuesday September 26.

    The program is part of a nationwide Healthier Universities Program (HUP) which has been enthusiastically adopted by CQU and strongly supported at the Mackay Campus.

    Artist and lecturer at CQU Mackay Ashley Holmes is displaying his interactive, multimedia art works at the Artspace ‘Pacific Edge’ Contemporary Art From Coastal Queensland exhibition which opened last Friday, as part of the Regional Arts Australia, National Conference.

    On Wednesday, Ashley spoke to art enthusiasts on his life and its influence on his works throughout his career.

    CQU Mackay Health and Well Being program is in full swing, making us all at the campus get off our chairs and move.

    As well as the regular exercise classes held in the Conservatorium foyer on Thursday at lunch time, next Tuesday CQU staff and students will have a chance to sit in on an informative session presented by Lyn Dupuy, a Naturopath from Dupuy's Pharmacy in Mackay.

    A Memorandum of Understanding signifying the strong research relationship between QR (Queensland Rail) and Central Queensland University’s Centre for Railway Engineering has been signed in Rockhampton.

    Mr Brian Bock, QR General Manager of Shared Services, and Professor Elizabeth Taylor, Executive Dean of the Faculty of Sciences, Engineering & Health at CQU, signed the agreement to continue the already strong research collaboration that exists between QR and the Centre for Railway Engineering.

    Participants supply the wool, knit and sew the squares.

    The former Bachelor of Business and international student from Rockhampton has become the liaison person for 26 Chinese male workers and their wives at Teys Brothers Meatworks.

  • Mummery accepted as Fellow of Australian Sports Medicine Federation

    CQU Professor Kerry Mummery has been accepted as a Fellow of the Australian Sports Medicine Federation (FASMF).

    He will receive his certificate during the Fellows Dinner at this year's Conference on Science and Medicine in Sport, due to be held in Fiji during October.

    The Australian Institute of Management, supported by CQU, was proud to award John Lever with the Manager of the Year and Darren Pirie the Young Manager of the Year Award at the 2006 Management Excellence Awards evening in Rockhampton recently.

    CQU is a regional partner of AIM and host of the AIM secretariat (via the Faculty of Business and Informatics).
