- Newton puts domestic violence in the spotlight but 'society awash with culpability'

Actor Matthew Newton has put the issue of domestic violence firmly in the spotlight, but our wider society needs to address the issue too.
That's according to domestic violence researcher Heather Nancarrow, who says that we should not just prevent specific cases of violence but also collectively reject tolerance of violence.

In 1952, Paul Andersen graduated from Kelvin Grove Teachers College at the University of Queensland and in 1980 graduated with a Bachelor of Education from this institution. He spent his long career working in both country and regional education areas and has a clear understanding of the ability of educated people to advance civil society by advancing knowledge.

Bob Scheuber is one of CQUniversity's most outstanding alumni, with an illustrious career in the Australian public sector. Bob was Chief Executive Officer of QR until 2007 when he established his own consulting business.

Rob Macfarlane has provided exceptional support to this University in a number of ways over an extended period of time through six years as a member of the governing Council from 1976 to 1982; lecturing, tutoring and marking from 1990 to 1998; and currently volunteering at the Capricornia Collection, housed in the University's Rockhampton Library, for more than five years.
As well, he has demonstrated an outstanding commitment to public service, where he has served the people of Central Queensland through his membership on Boards, his involvement with Rotary and YWCA, the Australian Decorative and Fine Arts Society and Aus-aid's Australian Business Volunteers, amongst others.

Trevor Gear has been an outstanding mentor to CQUniversity engineering co-op students, providing exceptional research opportunities that significantly enhance the quality of the student experience and which provide meaningful ‘real world' training, giving CQUniversity students a head start in the workplace. He has worked in a collaborative manner with university staff and students to produce some outstanding outcomes which have been widely recognised in both industry and academic circles.

Pioneering health educator and pharmacist Reg Fitzpatrick has devoted a lifetime to raising community awareness of serious health issues in Central Queensland.
As the first health education officer appointed in Queensland in 1974, Reg began to promote public health awareness when preventative medicine was still in its infancy and there were few health support groups in the community.

Australia's only radiographer Vice-Chancellor Professor Scott Bowman will be an invited guest at the gala dinner for a radiography World Congress on the Gold Coast this week (Sept 9-12).
Professor Bowman is keen to network with delegates attending from 45 countries, as CQUniversity expands its health and medical degree offerings from next year onwards.

Yeppoon's Village Festival is benefitting from CQUniversity's 'supporting partnership' as well as extensive involvement by staff and student performers.
This year's September 17-19 event includes a jazz extravaganza featuring our Jazz Ensemble, Salad Fingers and Groove Confederate student combos, while Bachelor of Music students Kendall Layt and Max Slater are part of a jazz-infused rock duo.

When Katrina Lane-Krebs sat down to have a cuppa with another mother attending an intervention program for children with a disability, she sparked events culminating in her recent nomination for a Pride of Australia Medal.
Katrina is a forensic nurse, nursing lecturer and mother of 7 children, including a son with cerebral palsy who requires daily therapy.
