Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

  • ITD trials maintenance windows; feedback sought

    ITD will trial a regular Information Technology “Maintenance Window” starting Wednesday 20 November from 8:00pm-11:00pm AEST. The trial, open to feedback from the CQU community, will allow ITD to establish necessary procedures and systems to implement a regularly occurring maintenance window.

    Nearly a third of students studying at Central Queensland University Rockhampton are fast-tracking their degrees over the traditional end of year period, according CQU Marketing Manager Eamon Coll.

    “Out of the 3500 students enrolled at the Rockhampton Campus, close to 950 students have enrolled in the Spring/Summer terms,” Mr Coll said.

    Central Queensland University acknowledged this by engaging literacy expert Associate Professor Christine Bruce to run three information literacy workshops at CQU's Rockhampton campus.

    Central Queensland University Mackay Education students who opted to return this spring semester to study could be rewarded with as much as $40 000 next year.

    This optional “third” semester allows Education students to earn a degree faster than most students at other Australian universities who study two semesters-a-year.
