Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

  • Strategic planning renewal rolled out

    CQU's strategic planning renewal process has been presented to staff this week, to seek initial responses and encourage feedback before consideration by the University Council on May 7.

    Deputy Vice-Chancellor Professor Jack Wood (pictured) is delivering presentations on all campuses and a web-streamed version will be available soon.

  • Hessen-Queensland Program offers student exchange opportunities

    CQU students are encouraged to consider applying for exchange to one of 12 higher education institutions in Hessen, a state in the heart of Germany and Europe.

    The Hessen Ministry of Higher Education, Research and the Arts is offering 10 scholarships for tuition for Queensland students in order to support an exchange to Hessen.

    CQU Rockhampton will host a Relay for Life fundraiser by a team call The Bald and the Beautiful, comprising staff from University Finance and others.

    The team's head shave and head colour fundraiser will take place from 1pm on Thursday, May 5, in the commercial courtyard on campus.

  • Visitors to help Rocky people taste Thai culture

    Sixteen Thai high school students will spend late April and early May in Rockhampton, learning English while encouraging cultural exchange opportunities.

    The Universal Cultural Exchange (UCE) Foundation of Thailand group will be hosted by Central Queensland University Language Centre, local Homestay families, the Cathedral College and St Anthony's Primary School.

    Leading Fijian exporter Mark Halabe was the guest speaker for CQU Fiji's graduation ceremony on Monday, April 18, at Suva's Holiday Inn.

    He addressed 35 graduates from the faculties of Business & Law; Arts, Health & Sciences; and Informatics & Communication, telling them they are valuable resources for the nation.

    About 60 members attended the official recognition ceremony.

  • 'Future of electronic health' event open to CQ audiences

    CQ residents are welcome to attend an update on the future of electronic health – a world where doctors can compare notes with colleagues around the globe while nurses are alerted by radio if a stroke victim falls over nearby.

    They can hear from Dr Anthony Maeder, Research Director at Brisbane’s e-Health Research Centre, during a seminar from 2pm-3pm on Wednesday, April 20.

  • QCWA awards bursary to Emerald student

    A CQU Emerald Bachelor of Learning Management student was the proud recipient of the Central Highlands Queensland Country Women’s Association’s (QCWA) annual bursary.

    Patsy Ann Ritchings was awarded the $500 bursary last week to help towards the cost of her studies.
