Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

    The CQU-based International Program of Psycho-Social Health Research (IPP-SHR) has been awarded a 2007 Endeavour India Research Fellowship by the Commonwealth Department of Science, Education and Training.

    This prestigious and highly competitive fellowship was awarded in recognition of the strong research collaboration that IPP-SHR has forged with the Regional Cancer Centre, Trivandrum, India.

  • Bid for new $100 million Rail CRC successful

    THE recent Rail CRC and industry joint bid for a new-from-existing CRC was successful, with a total funding of approximately $100 million pledged for rail research over the next 7 years.

    The Australian Government Department of Education, Science and Technology’s (DEST) CRC Program will contribute $21 million, with a further cash and in-kind contribution of approximately $80 million from the new Rail CRC Core Participants.

  • Plant Sciences researchers visit cotton research hub

    CQU Plant Sciences researchers have visited the Australian Cotton Research Institute at Narrabri in New South Wales.

    The Plant Sciences Group has been researching issues of cotton production in Central Queensland since 2001, initially in cooperation with the Queensland Department of Natural Resources and Mines (as it was then), and more recently with growers and the Queensland Department of Primary iIndustries and Fisheries.

    CQU engineering students Alexander Bletchly of Gladstone, Marc Cochrane of Mackay and Joshua Worley of Gladstone were among 14 Queensland students recently awarded with bursaries to support their studies in power engineering.

    The bursaries, presented by Mines and Energy Minister Geoff Wilson in Brisbane (Dec 13), are provided via the Power Engineering Alliance.
