Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

    More than 90 Central Queenslanders inched closer to a higher education degree following their graduation from Central Queensland University’s Skills for Tertiary Education Preparatory Studies (STEPS) program at Rockhampton.

    Enveloping the theme “Patchwork Dreaming”, the graduates showed how everyone’s life was a patchwork quilt and that learning was the thread of life.

  • Visiting Conductor Leads Music Bowl Event

    Visiting conductor Martin Jarvis (pictured) will lead around 100 performers for a Music Spectacular at Rockhampton Music Bowl, from 7pm on Saturday November 16.

    The 'Stars Under The Stars' event will feature Rockhampton Concert Orchestra, Capricornia Silver Band, Bachelor of Performing Arts dance students and guest soloists.

    Computer systems at Central Queensland University remained intact Tuesday following a disruption of service caused Friday night when a fire destroyed equipment that supplied “clean” electricity to campus servers and other communications equipment.

    Email service to about 700 staff, which was interrupted yesterday due to a disk failure, has been restored.

    A small fire Friday night at the Rockhampton campus affected servers and other computing and communications equipment within the Central Queensland University community. Systems are expected to be fully back on-line by the middle of the week.

    Eighteen students studying in either Honours, Masters by Research, Doctor of Philosophy and Professional Doctorate programs drawn from the five Faculties at Central Queensland University presented their work throughout the day.
