Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

    CQUniversity Noosa first year BLM students, with lecturers Sue Davis & Kathy Bauer, provided a range of creative activities for children who came to the Great Noosa Camp Out last weekend.

    These activities focussed on using the environment and natural materials to create rubbings, collages, a story mat and weavings.

    Former CQUniversity Vice Chancellor and Emeritus Professor John Rickard has been appointed the Foundation Chair of the new Higher Education Governing Council of the Melbourne Institute of Technology, it was announced this week by the organisation.

    "John Rickard [‘s]wide experience and industry knowledge will be invaluable as MIT builds the foundations for university college status," said  Mr Shesh Ghale, a joint owner of MIT, in a media statement.

    Miram Vale's Evan Bayliss started his engineering studies in Rockhampton with a perfect grade point average (GPA of 7) and now he can look forward to continued success thanks to an Orica Engineering Scholarship valued at $8000.

    Evan has also earned a 'potential expertise fund' prize for being the highest-performing first-year student at CQUniversity Rockhampton, an Engineers Australia Rockhampton Prize for the highest GPA in Engineering Foundation Mathematics and the Homer Cheng Ergon Energy Memorial Prize for the highest GPA in first-year Electrical Engineering.

    Alumnus Tiziana Zorzi's long association with our institution harks back to the 1970s when she was among Student Association executives who had the chance to mingle with Princess Alexandra, when Her Royal Highness visited to open the Rockhampton Campus Library.

    Now based in the USA, Tiziana was recently visiting relatives in Yeppoon with her husband and family, and took the opportunity to retrace her steps at the Rockhampton Campus.
