Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

  • Plant Science students speak at native plant workshop

    CQU’s Plant Science PhD students Sohail Qureshi and Shamsa Syeda were guest speakers at a workshop organised by the Fitzroy River and Coastal Catchments last Saturday.

    The workshop held at the Kershaw Gardens in North Rockhampton was titled 'Forum in the Field, Bush Tucker' and focused on Australian native plants and their identification.

  • CQU Emerald team walks for a cure

    CQU Emerald put together a team of people to participate in what has become one of the major fundraising events of the year for cancer research – the Relay for Life.

    On Saturday, August 19, the CQU Emerald team of 12 people led by Senior Administration Officer, Gai Sypher, and Administration Assistant, Kathy Howard, gathered at the Emerald Show Grounds to take part in the 2006 Relay for Life.

  • Poets hit the Criterion

    Some of the best poets Queensland has to offer will step up to the mic at Rockhampton's Criterion Hotel, from 7pm on Wednesday, September 6, when the Queensland Writers Centre and Central Queensland University present 'Wordpool: Poets in the Pub'.

    “Rockhampton writers have been asking for a poetry event,” said Queensland Writers Centre CEO, Kate Eltham, “so we’re answering the call".

  • CQU Mackay looking for more mentors

  • Students being recruited for 2007 mentor program

    CQU Student Services is busy recruiting second and third-year students for the 2007 Student Mentor and Leadership program.

    About 300 student mentors will be required to assist new students on all our regional campuses to settle into study.

  • CQU Mackay hosts information evening for non-school leavers

    Non-school leavers of the Mackay region will have a chance (next Monday evening) to find out how they can access university study at CQU Mackay campus, during an information session on campus.

    CQU Undergraduate Admissions Officer Janet Palmer will be on hand to talk through the various pathways into university, and how non-school leavers can gain a place at CQU to start their university career.
