Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

    More than 170 people arrived at CQU Mackay last Wednesday night to view the fascinating presentation by digital media artists from the Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI) and Weta Digital.

    The special presentation at Central Queensland University Mackay was also transmitted live to a further 200 people via video screens located at CQU’s Rockhampton, Gladstone and Bundaberg campuses.

  • CQU Mackay secures more places for Secondary Teachers

    The increasingly popular Bachelor of Learning Management (BLM) degree at Central Queensland University Mackay is able to offer up to 20 more places for secondary teaching in the 2005 intake.

    Sub-Dean of Education and Creative Arts Ms Cecily Knight is thrilled to announce the additional places for 2005, which will be the first year that BLM students can complete secondary teaching degrees at CQU Mackay.

    Central Queensland University has received good news during the QTAC enrolment period – a national survey has confirmed the University’s graduates get jobs at a rate above the national average. The national Graduate Careers Council of Australia (GCCA) figures confirmed this month (Sept) show CQU’s rate of graduate job success is 82.

  • Rockhampton diabetics sought to road-test resistance exercise program

    Rockhampton people with poorly controlled type II diabetes and limited mobility are encouraged to take part in a pilot exercise-based research project starting soon.

    The project recognises that these people may have had difficulty taking part in aerobic or gym-based exercise programs.

    A CQU distance education student has sent a LOL (laugh out loud) Email to her class message board after missing a lecture despite a 1250km drive to get there.

    The design perspectives student from the Gulf of Carpentaria travelled with husband and three kids to Mackay via Townsville to attend a 'digital magic' lecture by Lord of the Rings FX guru Eric Saindon (from Weta Digital in New Zealand).

    The study will gather evidence through focus groups to be held across Australia.
