Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

    A free community forum is being held today (Thursday) at CQU Rockhampton Harvard Theatre (bldg 32), entitled ‘Healing the Spirit’.

    Australian Rotary Health Research Fund Forum in Collaboration with Murri & Islander groups, the Rotary Club of Rockhampton East, Rockhampton Mental Health Unit, and Central Queensland University are presenting ‘Healing the Spirit’ as a Rotary Centennial Project.

  • Plant tissue culture course seeds new skills

    A total of 14 trainees - most from the nursery industry - have attended a five-day Plant Tissue Culture for Beginners training course, presented in Rockhampton by Dr Nanjappa Ashwath and Dr Poonam Bhatia from CQU Plant Sciences.

    Dean of Arts, Health & Sciences Professor Professor Errol Payne presented certificates to the participants in the presence of Associate Professor Kerry Walsh and Dr Bob Newby.

    CQU Nursing & Health Studies lecturer Wendy Madsen has been invited to address a Royal College of Nursing Australia Qld Chapter History National Network breakfast in Brisbane during November.

    The address will be about government, legislation and nursing services in Queensland 1911-1950s.

    From Crime Scene Forensics to Productive Pedagogies, the latest education technology was showcased this week at CQU Mackay when more than 100 second and third-year Bachelor of Learning Management students attended a Showcase Forum.

    CQU lecturer and organiser Pam Gargett said the presentations were designed to demonstrate to students the practical applications of knowledge gained across their courses of study, and to showcase current, cutting-edge practices in local schools.

    Staff from the Laboratory will this Friday (October 15) begin calling 1200 randomly selected households throughout Central Queensland to ascertain attitudes towards issues such as health and lifestyle.
