Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

  • High-tech help to prevent further heart disease

    Thanks to an innovative new project being developed by Central Queensland University with funding from MBF Foundation, heart surgery patients around the country could soon have access to rehabilitation services in the comfort of their own home rather than having to travel to special outpatient clinics.

    Researchers at the University’s Rockhampton campus are developing an on-line outpatient rehabilitation service for people who have had heart surgery to see if it improves health outcomes by reducing the risk of heart problems recurring.

    A new sign has been erected at the Rockhampton Base Hospital to signify the growing relationship between Central Queensland University and Queensland Health.

    The sign was established to mark the collaborative efforts between CQU Nursing and Health Studies and Queensland Health to both provide and retain professional nurses in regional hospitals.

  • Scott wins Engineering scholarship

    Recently-graduated Year 12 Whitsunday Anglican School student, Scott Harrison was announced as one of the Central Queensland University (CQU) Bachelor of Engineering (Co-op)/Diploma of Professional Practice (Engineering) scholarship winners.

    Twelve scholarships in total were distributed to school leavers in the Central and South-East Queensland area, each worth $1000.

    The project aims to ascertain what objectives Indigenous men have for a national network and to discuss what the most appropriate and effective means of communication are.
