Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

    Ten pieces of contemporary indigenous art, part of a national touring exhibition, will be on display at the Bundaberg campus through 11 October with support from CQU. Mervyn Johnson, the Chairperson of the Bundaberg Regional Council of Elders, officially unveils the collection -- called Native Title Business -- today (Friday 13 September 3PM).

    The children were winners of the Central Queensland University Office of Research’s design-a-poster competition.

    The first Norwegian student has arrived at CQU Fiji - Anders Fjesme is from Oslo, Norway.

    After Anders completed his high school studies in June 2000 he joined the army.

  • Rocky performers hit 'time warp' on way to Brisbane

    Rockhampton ‘Rocky Horror’ performers Glenn Olive (Riff Raff), Natalie Whelan (Columbia) and Katie Ross (Magenta) are flying out to be ambassadors to Brisbane’s Rocky Horror festival.

    The Central Queensland Conservatorium of Music performers featured in Horrors in Rocky in April, presented by Rockhampton Tourist and Business Information at the Great Western Hotel.

    The Standing Committee on Transport and Regional Services visited the Rail Cooperative Research Centre at Central Queensland University (Building 70) in Rockhampton this week.

    A CQU research team will likley play a future role in the region's future inland rail project.

  • CQU backs training extension for meatworkers

    Central Queensland University has agreed to continue their support for meatworkers affected by the recent closure of Rockhampton’s Lakes Creek Meatworks.

    The COIN Internet Academy – a joint project between CQU’s Faculty of Informatics and Communication and the Rockhampton City Council – has to date conducted basic computer training for 24 meatworkers involving six two-hour training sessions.

  • Melbourne campus enters business competition

    CQU's Melbourne International Campus entered a six-member postgraduate team in the Business Strategy Competition held at Melbourne University School of Business in Carlton.

    The competition, sponsored by the Boston Consultancy Group, was organised by members of the Commerce and Economics Society based at University of New South Wales.

  • Opera redefined through Mackay performance

    Stories about Mackay’s people will be reconstructed through a blend of live music, theatre and digital media in the coming months.

    In a joint project Crossroads Arts and Opera North have invited singers, actors, musicians and backstage crew from the region, including Central Queensland University’s multimedia and Central Queensland Conservatorium of Music students to help create a performance that reflects Mackay’s past.

    Mr McGeechan has already had an interesting career path, including an apprenticeship as a diesel fitter and running his own landscaping business.
