Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

    Last week's information and feedback session to discuss the proposed introduction of ethnic language courses for Rockhampton district residents proved very successful.

    Organiser Rema Dhanasekar said the audience participated very well during the questioning session and an expression of interest form was distributed to participants.

  • Fruit and Vege Association visits Plant Sciences Group

    Ten growers from the Rockhampton Fruit and Vegetable Growers' Association have visited the Plant Sciences Group facilities at CQU Rockhampton (March 3).

    Following presentations by Professor David Midmore on the contribution of Plant Sciences to Horticulture and by Sohail Qureshi on integrated pest management, the group visited the non-invasive fruit quality laboratory, with a presentation by Phul Subedi, and the glasshouse/screenhouse, with explanations on ongoing research on oxygation by Dr Surya Bhattarai and Lance Pendergast.

  • Rocky Campus sausage sizzle helps combat diabetes

    More than 3 million Australians have diabetes or pre-diabetes and Diabetes Australia is the only charity caring for all people with diabetes.

    Dale Trott, Department of Health and Human Performance, and Toni McLean, Department of Nursing and Health Studies, have decided to dive right in and organise a 'Great Australian Bite' Sausage Sizzle to raise funds for research on this deadly disease.

  • CQU schedules weeknight ceremonies to bring graduation dates into alignment

    Central Queensland University has favoured weeknights over weekends to bring into alignment the schedules for graduation ceremonies across 12 locations in Australia and overseas in 2007.  

    In 2006, CQU conducted 20 graduation ceremonies, at various locations.

    Dr Martand Joshi, former Honorary Consul of India, visited CQU Sydney International Campus last week to talk to staff and students about cultural awareness.

    Dr Joshi is currently employed with the Melbourne and Sydney international campuses as a consultant in the area of International Cultural Liaison.

  • Students can sign on to clubs at UniMart

    The CQU Student Association in Rockhampton will hold a Club Sign-on during the CQUSA UniMart on Wednesday March 14, from 11:30am to 1:30pm, on the lawns between the CQU Library and amphitheatre.

    Students interested in starting a club are asked to register with the CQU Student Association (Bldg 36) to receive a free table and chairs to run a membership drive on the day.

    CQU's Health and Physical Education students began 2007 in a spacious, state-of-the-art lecture space, conveniently located in the heart of CQU's sports precinct.

    The air-conditioned teaching space includes sound attenuation and a roof-mounted data projector.
