Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Adult learning peak body visits, calls for 'reassessment'

The president of Australia's peak adult learning body, Professor Barry Golding has visited Rockhampton for a forum calling for a reassessment of adult education in Australia.

CQUniversity hosted the forum at its Ron Smyth Building in Quay Street.

    Central Highlands residents have a chance to explore tertiary study options thanks to a program information evening due at Central Queensland University Emerald (now located at the Emerald Agricultural College).

    You may not know the name Finn Buckley, but the face may ring a bell - possibly a school bell? Finn (pictured) has commenced his teaching career at Coolum Primary School, following the completion of his Bachelor of Learning Management degree at Central Queensland University Noosa Hub.

    He is also one of the faces of CQU's press and TV campaign for enrolments in 2005.

    He is also leading a Vajrasattva Purification Retreat on the weekend of September 18-19 at CQU Rockhampton Bldg 33 (follow the signs).

    Nursing and Health Studies Head of School Dr Lorna Moxham recently addressed RoadTek representatives about workplace rehabilitation.

    Dr Moxham spoke about how injured workers and employers need to work together to facilitate an early return to work for the employee.

    CQU's Process Engineering and Light Metals (PELM) Centre is now the base for Airlabs, a Brisbane-based air monitoring company.

    According to the Gladstone Observer, Airlabs has set up an office in Gladstone to examine the effects local industry has on Gladstone air.

  • Yummy role for music theatre graduate

    CQU music theatre graduate Laura Morrisey, 20, is playing the female lead role of Yum Yum in the Toowoomba Choral Society's production of 'The Mikado'.

    According to The Courier Mail, Laura was only eight years old when she began her stage career with the choral society.
